Fourth Book Bomb Sent to Ahmad Dhani

A book bomb has been sent to music mogul Ahmad Dhani, the police said on Thursday, in what appears to be the latest in a string of attempted book-bomb attacks in Jakarta.

“A book bomb was sent to Ahmad Dhani’s residence in Pondok Indah,” the South Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Gatot Edi Pramono told the Jakarta Globe.

“We have disposed of the bomb with the help of the bomb squad,” he said.

It is the fourth such attempt after three book bombs were received at three different locations on Tuesday.

The title of the book sent to Dhani was “Yahudi Militan” (“The Militant Jewish”). Dhani’s house and studio is located at Jalan Pinang Mas 3 in the upscale residential area of Pondok Indah.

According to Gatot, the package was sent on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

“But it was only opened today. His employee saw a book and a letter in it, he was suspicious so he called the police,” he said.

The letter said that the book was sent by Alamsyah Muthar SoS at Jalan Darmaga 21, Bogor, West Java.

Ahmad Dhani rose to fame with his band Dewa 19 in the early 90s. Currently, he is the owner of RCM artist management that is responsible for launching the career of many Indonesian singers and bands. He has been known for his controversial views on several issues, including religion, and the rumors that he is half Jewish from his mother’s side.

The first book bomb, sent to Liberal Islamic Network co-founder Ulil Abshar Abdalla in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, aroused suspicion and was reported to the police. But police officers attempting to defuse the bomb accidentally detonated it, causing one officer to lose his hand. Two other officers escaped serious injury.

The second package was addressed to Comr. Gen. Gories Mere, a former key officer of the National Police’s elite counterterrorism unit, Densus 88.

The books sent to Ulil and Gories were titled “They Deserved to Be Killed: Because of Their Sins to Islam and Muslims.”

The third bomb, sent to Yapto Suryosumarno, was hidden inside a book titled “Masih Adakah Pancasila?” (“Does Pancasila Still Exist?”), Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharuddin Jafar said.
